About District

Patna is the largest town and headquarters of Patna district and it is located on the south bank of the river Ganga. The total Area off the district is 3,202 Sq. Km and it is located at 25.35° N 85.12° E. As per census 2001, the population of Patna District is over 4,718,592 (Male - 2,519,942 and Female-2,198,650). The growth rate is (1991-2001) is 30.17%. Overall Literacy rate is 62.9%. It is mainly an administrative and educational centre of Bihar. Rice is the main crop of the district. It accounts for more than one third gross area sown. Other important food grains grown are maize, pulses and wheat. Non-food crops consist mostly of oil-seeds, cash crops such as vegetables, water-melons etc. are also grown in Diara belt. It is well connected by railway and road. The places of tourist interest in the district are Agamkuan, Botanical & Zoological Garden, Gandhi Sangrahalaya, Jalan museum or Qila House, Kumhrar, Mahavir temple, Martyrs Memorial, Patna Museum, Padri Ki Haveli, Pathar Ki Masjid , planetariums, Srikrishna science centre, Sher Shah Suri Masjid and Harmandir Takht.
