Surajpur was declared District on 15 August 2011 along with 8 (Eight) other new district. Surajpur town is the Administrative Head Quarter of the District, located 256 km North from the State Capital Raipur. Surajpur is Known for its Market (Economical and Quality product)and other major Tourist places of Chhattisgarh with Tamor Pingla Wild Life Sanctuary. The total geographical area of the district is 2,786.68 sq. km. The district is divided into 6 Thasils and 550 Villages. The places of tourist interests in the districts are Kudargarh, Sarasore, Shivpur Shiva Temple, Mahamaya Mandir and Surajpur Hanuman temple.
