The total geographical area of the Bilaspur district is 1167 sq.km. As per Census 2011, the total population of the district is 3,81,956 of which 1,92,764 are males and 1,89,192 are females. Administratively, the district is divided into two 2 Sub-Divisions viz. Sadar & Ghumarwin and four Tehsils viz. Sadar, Ghumarwin, Jhandutta & Sri Naina Devi Ji at Swarghat. The district comprises of four Development Blocks viz. Sadar, Ghumarwin, Jhandutta & Sri Naina Devi Ji at Swarghat. The places of Historical Interests in the districts are Fort of Kotkahlur, Fort of Bachhretu, Fort of Tiun and Thakurdwara of Auhar. The Places of Tourist Interests in the districts are Bhakra Dam, Gobind Sagar Lake, New Bilaspur Town and Kandrour Bridge.
