About District

Ukhrul District was first marked out as a Sub-Division in 1919 by the then British-India. Later Tengnoupal District, now called Chandel District was carved out from this district on 15th July, 1983 and the title of the district was changed into Ukhrul District in 1983. Ukhrul District is bounded by Myanmar in the East, Chandel District in the South, Imphal East and Senapati Districts in the West and Nagaland State in the North. The terrain of the district is hilly with a varying heights of 913 m to 3114 m (MSL). The district HQ. Ukhrul is linked with Imphal, the state capital by a NH 150about 84 Km. The total geographical area of the district is 4,544 Sq.Km. As per Census 2011, the total population of the district is 1,83,998 out of which 94,718 are males and 89,280 females. The District now has 7(seven) Sub-Divisions and 8(eight) Development Blocks. The places of tourist interests in the district are Khayang Peak, Shirui Kashung Peak , Khangkhui Mangsor (cave), Kachouphung Lake, Ango Ching, Hundung Mangva Cave, Dilily Water Fall near Khayang Phungtha, Azoa Jenephiu Magi Lake near Kachouphung etc.
